Fitzroy Falls Conference Centre |
A Brief History Fitzroy Falls Conference Centre has been operating since 1978, providing wonderful memories for thousands of people who have attended church and school camps here. The very first camp was held by Deakin High School. Martin and Robyn Reurich began the task of clearing the land of trees, erecting buildings and landscaping the grounds back in 1975 and, with the help of family and staff, continue to run the centre. Churches from all denominations and Christian organisations run family, youth and children' camps during the weekends and school holidays. Craft, quilting and potters camps, music weekends and family reunions, all find this a very functional venue. School groups of up to 200 students and staff visit midweek and run their own retreats, peer support camps, regional music and performing arts camps, career camps (even maths camps!). Many schools use the recreational facilities and plan their own programmes or we can run fully or partly programmed camps with skilled outdoor education instructors. Site Development Starting with their first facility, consisting of dining/conference and recreational rooms, 6 dormitories and 3 leaders' rooms, housing 100 beds, it soon became apparent that they needed a second, more family-oriented area. By 1981, they had a second, fully self-contained area available with 8 motel-like rooms and a large dining/meeting room and kitchen. Dormitories and family units all have ensuites, carpet and heating. The two large dining rooms are enhanced by central fireplaces and the two kitchens are well equipped for catered and self-catered groups. The large recreation room, indoor swimming pool and games room provide plenty of things to do in unpleasant weather. As God provided the funds for them, they added Park Cabins for families and a special staff retreat for teachers and bus drivers. Tennis, volleyball and basketball courts, mini golf, archery, low ropes, canoes and bikes, Giant Swing, and Tree Climb have all become popular activities. The campsite has a beautiful log chapel for worship and meditation. Back in 1980, students with Youth with a Mission assisted in its construction. On the walls of the chapel, burned into cut log sections are many of the words of Jesus, such as "I am the way;" "I am the Good Shepherd." Over 20 couples have been married in the chapel. About the Owners Because they are not getting any younger, they have a great team of wonderful young workers now running their outdoor education programmes, children's programmes for church groups and assisting them with catering and general administration. They have always had a very reliable and loyal cleaning team come in after every camp. Their aim has always been to use their property to the Glory of God whereby young and old can study God's word in a natural environment and through this, come to a knowledge of Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour. They stand amazed at what God has done over these many years! Back to top |
